Electric transportation devices refer to small, low-speed electric transport equipment, including electric assist bicycles (e-bikes), electric scooters (e-scooters), and other small, lightweight wheeled electric transport tools.

FCC Certification:

Applicability: Required if the electric transportation device contains wireless communication equipment needing FCC certification (such as Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi modules, or other RF technologies). This certification ensures the product's compliance with radio frequency spectrum regulations in the US market.

UL Certification:

Applicability: This pertains to product safety certification standards. For electric transportation devices, if they contain components like batteries or chargers, UL certification is typically required. The UL 2849 certification for electric bicycles is a common UL safety standard for e-bikes. It focuses on the electrical safety performance of electric bicycles, including short-circuit protection, overload protection, battery overheat protection for electrical components, etc.

DOT Certification:

Applicability: If the electric transportation device falls under vehicle categories approved for road use, such as electric motorcycles or certain electric trikes, it may require certification from the US Department of Transportation (DOT). This certification involves requirements related to vehicle identification, lights, braking systems, etc., ensuring the vehicle complies with highway safety regulations.

CPSC Certification: The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) establishes a series of safety standards. Electric transportation devices need to comply with these standards and obtain relevant certification to ensure the product does not pose safety risks to users during operation.

EPA Certification: If the electric transportation device uses batteries or other power sources, and its emissions or energy usage might be regulated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), then EPA certification should be considered to ensure the product's environmental friendliness and emissions compliance.

GCC (General Certificate of Conformity): For certain general-use products (subject to applicable consumer product safety rules), a written General Certificate of Conformity (GCC), based on testing or a reasonable testing program, must certify that the product complies with those applicable rules. The GCC and supporting test reports must be in English. For products like electric bicycles sold on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon US, a GCC certificate is also required.
